Mount forced to withdraw from England squad, reason named

Mason Mount has withdrawn from the England squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine.

The Englishman is yet to recover from a public bone injury that has kept him sidelined for the last four games for Chelsea.

The FA confirmed this in a statement that said: “Marcus Rashford will also miss out on the forthcoming UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers having picked up a knock during Manchester United’s Emirates FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham on Sunday.

“Similarly, Mason Mount will not report for international duty this week as he continues rehabilitation with Chelsea.

“No further replacements are planned and 23 players arrived at St. George’s Park on Monday ahead of fixtures against Italy in Naples on Thursday 23 March and Ukraine at Wembley on Sunday 26 March.”

Mount will use this period to work on his recovery process and aim to return to action for Chelsea after the international break. Like him, Wesley Fofana has also been forced to withdraw from international duty due to injury.

The Englishman is currently stuck in a contract standoff with the Blues and looks likely to leave the club in the summer.

Mount has scored 3 goals and provided 6 assists in 32 appearances for Chelsea this season.
