'You’re downgrading for a Mudryk': Boehly slammed as 'disgrace' for letting Mason Mount leave

During a discussion of Chelsea's transfer policy, ex-Tottenham midfielder and talkSPORT pundit Jamie O'Hara had a few strong words about the Blues allowing Mason Mount to leave this summer.

"I think Boehly’s a disgrace," O'Hara said.

"What they're doing is downgrading Mason Mount, a top player, homegrown player, been at the club since he was 10.

"Loves the football club, but because he’s come in and spent £600m on bang average players, you now need to balance the books and you’re downgrading for a Mudryk who's £70m and has been garbage.

"That for me just shows how he’s not meant to run a football club. He doesn’t understand homegrown talent, he doesn’t understand academy players, he doesn’t understand you need those players in your dressing room.

"Mason Mount is Chelsea, and now Chelsea have to get rid of him just to balance the books."

The reality is more complicated, of course. Chelsea would happily keep Mount if he agreed to sign a new deal on their terms - but the player does not feel that their offer reflects his status as the club's Player of the Year for two previous seasons.

Now, Mount is more likely to leave than to stay, with Man United leading Liverpool and Arsenal in the race.
