How looming Tonali betting ban could affect Chelsea — explained

Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali is facing a lengthy ban from football after reportedly admitting in court that he placed bets on AC Milan to win games during his time with the Rossoneri.

The Magpies splashed £55m on the Italian but he's likely to get suspended for up to three years for betting.

According to Teamtalk, Newcastle are now looking at potential replacements in midfield and this is where Chelsea come into question. Among the options Toon are considering is Andrey Santos, who's currently on loan with Nottingham Forest.

However, the situation is further complicated by the fact that the Magpies already have a loanee from Chelsea in Lewis Hall. The Premier League regulation prohibit a club from taking more than one player on loan from the same club. If Eddie Howe's side buys Hall this winter, they would be able to go for Santos.

Other options for Newcastle are Scott McTominay and Kalvin Phillips.
