'In a way I punished myself': Chelsea-linked Ivan Toney opens up on time away from football

Speaking to the Mirror, Ivan Toney said: "I know there's a lot of people thinking 'Can he do this, can he do that? How will he be when he gets back?'

"I didn't watch football. I didn't watch football for a while. In a way I punished myself. There was a stage I probably did fall out of love with football.

"It is what it is, but the situation is done. What am I telling myself? I'm saying 'You've got things to do'. Watch this space and let's see what happens."

Toney is available for selection once again now that his gambling ban has expired. The striker scored a hat-trick for Brentford B in his first game back.

Meanwhile, The Bees' manager Thomas Frank is adamant that the 27-year-old will be staying put in January amid major interest from Chelsea and Arsenal.
