Speaking on talkSPORT, Graeme Souness said: "The hierarchy and the fans at Chelsea must just be hoping that it's going to take a year for these new players get a look at the Premier League and then they'll kick on.
"Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, they're not really showing £100 million-player qualities right now. They have to improve. Nicolas Jackson up front has to improve. They will all be hoping this is a learning year for them.
"They have to up their game. I try to cut them some slack because they're young but those three and others have to start turning up. If they don't, Chelsea are going to have to go again when it comes to spending money."
Chelsea have been transformed into a completely new team since Todd Boehly took over and the club has been plagued by a lack of consistency.
Big-money players like Enzo and Caicedo have so far failed to justify their massive price-tags and it's hard to argue with Souness' points here.
