Cole Palmer is flying high on confidence as he gears up to face his former side Man City in the upcoming FA Cup semi-final on Saturday (April 20).
Ahead of the game, Palmer opened up on the conversation he had with Pep Guardiola before his transfer to Chelsea, telling the Daily Mail: “Initially I didn’t want to leave,.
“I said I would go on loan and play for a year so I was ready for first-team football more because I didn’t play a lot of minutes [last season]. But then Pep said “you’re either staying or you’re getting sold” and, so yeah, I just got sold.
“I was a bit confused why they wouldn’t let me go on loan but [then] I said I wanted to go to Chelsea and I’m glad it’s turned out the way it has.”
Chelsea fans will be glad that Guardiola basically forced Palmer out of his club by giving him this kind of stipulation, with the Englishman proving to be one of the Blues’ best signings in the Premier League era.
The Englishman has taken his tally to 23 goals and 13 assists in 38 appearances for Chelsea so far in the 2023/24 season.
