Ian Maatsen played a prominent role in helping Borussia Dortmund defeat Atletico Madrid and move into the Champions League semi-finals.
The Chelsea loanee scored in the 4-2 win in the second leg, helping his side win the tie by a 5-4 aggregate at the Signal Iduna Park.
After the match, Maatsen opened up on his loan spell and about leaving the Blues in January, telling CBS Sport: “It's such an amazing feeling, you know? I've been dreaming of this since I was a kid, especially scoring my first goal in the Champions League. I'm so happy I can't even describe it.
“I always had the belief to play for Chelsea but unfortunately for some reasons it didn't work out. But, now I am here, I am very grateful for this opportunity. I came here to experience at the highest level and play my game and today I think I showed a very good performance.”
Maatsen has made 17 appearances for Dortmund so far this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in all competitions. His loan deal has a £35m buy clause inserted in it, meaning the German side can sign him permanently by paying that amount after this season is over.
