Brighton boss De Zerbi slams referee in Chelsea game — despite his team avoiding red card

Chelsea fans have a reason to be unhappy about the refereeing in the Brighton game as an elbow on Mykhailo Mudryk by Tariq Lamptey went unpunished, even though the winger left the pitch with a concussion.

However, Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi claims that it was his team who were hard done by. He referred to an incident when Simon Adingra fell in Chelsea's penalty area after a duel with Malo Gusto.

"I think it was a clear penalty today," De Zerbi said after the game.

"But the problem is not VAR, the problem is the level of the referees. Today I did not like the performance of the referee. But I make more mistakes than the referee."

Even if that decision was a refereeing mistake, it did not seem as egregious as the missed elbow on Mudryk. In any case, De Zerbi may be right in questioning the level of officials.
