Mauricio Pochettino's exit from Chelsea came as a shock to several senior players.

The manager had done well to salvage the season a little after a torrid period earlier in the season and Chelsea finished in a Europa League spot with their win over Bournemouth at the weekend.

According to Ben Jacob's reports, Pochettino sat down for talks with the owners and sporting directors for an analytical review of the season.

Chelsea believed that Pochettino was not a good "strategic fit" at the club and their condition might deteriorate if he stayed on.

The Chelsea leadership reportedly came in "armed with data" about Pochettino's team's performance which included information about missed big chances and the failure to make set pieces count.
