Chelsea are still considering Roberto De Zerbi as a potential candidate to replace Mauricio Pochettino as head coach. It was earlier reported about the 4-man shortlist with names like Enzo Maresca, Kieran McKenna and Thomas Frank in it.
However, confirmation is still pending on whether Roberto De Zerbi is the final, undisclosed candidate on Chelsea’s list. According to The Telegraph, one thing remains clear - De Zerbi’s candidacy has not been dismissed but he is an outlier in the race and his chances are not very high.
Unlike Maresca, McKenna, and Frank, De Zerbi is currently a free agent after parting ways with Brighton. This means any club hiring him would only owe around £5 million in compensation, a much lower figure than the £15 million while he was still with Brighton.
However, for De Zerbi to land the job, he'll need to prove he can work within Chelsea's structure alongside sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.
There were frustrations with Brighton's model last season, and De Zerbi is known in football circles as a challenging personality. Still, his style of possession-based football aligns well with Chelsea's preferences.
