ESPN: Barcelona plan major coronavirus-caused sale with only 3 players 'safe'

Barcelona have set ambitious goals in terms of transfers but they would have to let some of their own players leave if they're to bring in their targets.

As ESPN say, citing their sources inside the club, the Catalans plan to land the players they want using mainly exchanges and swap deals with minimum actual spending.

Thus, only Leo Messi, Frenkie de Jong and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are 'safe' from becoming a part of some kind of player-for-player exchange.

Barcelona are targeting a major attacking signing – there is a debate whether it should be Lautaro Martinez, Neymar or maybe even both players.

On top of that, singings of a right-back and a centre-back to replace Gerard Pique are being discussed.

The inner circles of the club are in agreement that a significant number of the players currently in the squad need to either be sold or become a part of a swap deal for the aforementioned targets. The ongoing coronavirus crisis has left Barca with no choice.

The Catalans' number one target is Lautaro and although the Argentine has a 111 million euros release clause, Barca bosses 'have no intention' to pay it in full. There have already been several meetings between Inter and Barcelona, with the latter offering various swap deals.

The situation with Neymar is roughly the same as it was last year when the Catalans tried to offer the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Rakitic, Samuel Umtiti, Jean-Clair Todibo and Ousmane Dembele in exchange.

There are players in Barca squad who could be interesting Inter and PSG, according to the source. As it's already known, the Italians want to see Arturo Vidal at San Siro. Meanwhile, the likes of Rafinha and Carles Alena could also be included in the deal for Lautaro.

As for PSG, they are especially interested in the France internationals like Umititi, Dembele and Griezmann to bolster the number of homegrown Fench players in their squad.

As you remember, president Bartomeu promised last month that the Blaugrana will be able to complete big-name transfers despite the crisis. However, the only ways to achieve this are swap deals or major sales.
