True class from rivals: Real Madrid and Valencia show supportive message for Juan Carlos Unzue before kick-off

This Thursday has been marred by a dreadful announcement made by ex-Blaugrana Juan Carlos Unzue. Earlier today, Luis Enrique's former assistant revealed he is suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Unzue has already received plenty of heartfelt message from all his former teammates and players.

Real Madrid and Valencia have also shown their class as they posed with a supportive banner dedicated to Unzue before their head-to-head duel just some minutes ago. The game started at 22:00 CEST.

The sides' respective captains, Sergio Ramos and Dani Parejo posing with the banner saying 'Get well soon Unzue. We're with you', as shown by Movistar:

Sadly, Unzue's disease is untreatable. One can only take the pills to slow its progression.

ALS is a disease that causes the death of neurons controlling voluntary muscles. This condition is characterized by stiff muscles, muscle twitching, and gradually worsening weakness due to muscles decreasing in size.

Unzue briefly played for Barca in the later 80s and the returned to the club as a goalkeeper coach under Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola.

He then worked at Barcelona with Luis Enrique between 2014 and 2017. He was part of the treble-winning team in 2015.

Unzue started his individual managerial career in 2017. He coached Celta and Girona. The former goalkeeper is currently without a club.
