Griezmann and Lenglet eliminated from Euros after Switzerland penalty loss

Barcelona's duo Antoine Griezmann and Clement Lenglet have been eliminated from the 2020 Euros after France lost on penalties to Switzerland. The crucial penalty miss came from none other than Kylian Mbappe.

The regular time ended in a 3-3 draw, with the Swiss winning the penalty shootout 5-4. Neither Griezmann nor Lenglet took part in the shootout as they were subbed off in the second half of regular time.

Ousmane Dembele, who had also been called up to represent France, left his national team a week ago after picking up a knee injury.

New day, same old Lenglet: Barca defender easily beaten as France concede first vs Switzerland

The round of 16 match against Switzerland became Clement Lenglet's first game at the Euro 2020. Judging by how he defended in the opening minutes, it's no surprise that the France boss had him on the bench in the three previous matches.

Just take a look at how easily Haris Seferovic beats the Barcelona defender to open the score.

Sure, there might've been a slight push from Seferovic, but it was not strong enough to be called a foul. Lenglet definitely gave up too easily there.

Barca ready to sell Griezmann to lower wage bill (reliability: 4 stars)

Despite them being happy with Antoine Griezmann's performances, Barcelona are open to listening to offers on the Frenchman, MARCA's reliable M.Carmen Torres reports. They reckon that there are enough attacking players in the squad to compensate for Antoine's potential departure.

The Catalans need money and need it now, it's said. Besides, Griezmann is the second best-paid player at the club, so his exit would significantly lighten the wage bill.

However, Barca won't sell him on the cheap since they paid €120m to get the 30-year-old back in the day, and only a 'serious bid' would be considered.

In the 2020/21 season, Griezmann played 51 matches for Barcelona and contributed with 20 goals and 12 assists, making him the player with the most goal contributions, only behind Leo Messi.
