Rating Barca players in 2021/22 season: goalkeepers

There is only one matchday left this season - while Barcelona have already fulfilled their task of qualifying for the Champions League and the Spanish Supercopa.

So, let's sum up our players' performances and assess them, starting with the goalkeepers.

1. Marc-Andre ter Stegen

The German had an unimpressive start to the season, conceding plenty of goals from relatively easy positions and failing to prove himself a quality ball distributor.

Things changed a lot when Xavi took over. Ter Stegen's performances early in the year were crucial to Barca's unbeaten streak – and he became a better passer too, although he is yet to find his top form.

Just like last season, the 30-year-old kept 11 clean sheets in 32 league games – which is quite impressive given a horror beginning of the season we had this time.

In terms of some other stats, Ter Stegen has even got close to his brilliant form of 2019/20. He is 8th in the league in progressive passing distance - his best result since 19/20 - and 10th in the league in saves made - also his best result since that campaign.

We hope Marc-Andre's rise continues under Xavi.

Rating: 6.5/10.

2. Neto

Our back-up goalkeeper has made just 4 appearances this season and didn't look convincing in most of them.

The Brazilian was lucky to not concede a blooper against third-tier side Linares in Copa del Rey; afterwards, Xavi didn't think of playing him instead of Ter Stegen.

The only great performance of Neto came against Real Betis on May 7. Ter Stegen was ill, and the 32-year-old made a few big saves as we won 2-1 and secured Champions League qualification.

Rating: 4/10.

3. Inaki Pena

The 23-year-old La Masia graduate was loaned out to Galatasaray mid-season – and looked superb at the very beginning of the spell, especially when he played against Barcelona in the Europa League.

After 6 league games played and 15 saves made, he was dropped to the bench and never had a chance to impress again.

Pena's form suffered a dip, but he is still expected to be rewarded for his efforts with the status of Barca's second-choice goalkeeper next season.

Rating: 5/10.
