Barca players to elect new captain to replace Pique - two 'strong' candidate emerge

Barcelona are in need of a new club captain after Gerard Pique’s retirement.

As per Sport, Xavi will give the players a chance to elect the new captain to replace the Spaniard by themselves.

For now, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Robert Lewandowski are the two strong candidates to become a co-club captain.

Traditionally, the most experienced players are made club captains are Barca.

Ter Stegen is the fourth most experienced one (in terms of actually playing for the club) after Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto and Jordi Alba.

Lewandowski, on the other hand, is among the oldest players in the squad and possesses a lot of top-level experience.

Both are regular starters for Barca too, so it remains to be seen who is elected by the players.
