Barcelona put an end to a two-game winless streak in La Liga with a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid.
The game, however, wasn’t as cagey as the scoreline suggests – even though Ferran Torres’ late strike in the first half separated both teams in the end.
As per The Athletic, Barca had an expected goals (xG) of 2.18 – as compared to Atletico’s 1.28.
The Blaugrana had 13 shot attempts, out of which four were on target. Atletico also had as many attempts, with three on target.
Barca had a few huge chances in the second half. Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha both missed open-net chances, with the former wasting one easy attempt late on.
If Lewandowski was more prolific on the day, the scoreline could’ve easily been 3-1 – even if Atletico scored past the rock Marc-Andre ter Stegen. But given the circumstances, a gritty 1-0 win is still good enough.
