On Sunday, Xavi surprised fans with some of his selections for the game against Cadiz. Starting 16-year-old Lamine Yamal on the left while benching Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres raised eyebrows.
But the decision to start Frenkie De Jong as a centre-back was also a major surprise.
Apparently, Xavi prefers the midfielder as a centre-back following the injury to Ronald Araujo last week.
Eric Garcia was left on the bench with De Jong pairing Andreas Christensen at the back. Jules Kounde played a good game at right-back.
De Jong played the entire 90 minutes and it was Christensen who came off for Garcia when Xavi gave the order to shuffle up his rearguard.
Barca were solid defence and kept their second clean sheet of the new season, but they need to thank Zamora holder Ter Stegen for saving this chance when a Cadiz striker was allowed to run through on goal.
