Following his unimpressive outing against Real Madrid, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is being called one of the worst Barca players in big games over the past few years.
As proof, fans recall the German's showings in Europe.
Let's go all the way back to 2017 when Blaugrana got eliminated from the Champions League by Juventus, losing the first leg 3-0.
Juventus 3-0 Barcelona. Could've done better at the first two goals conceded, not at fault at the third one. Made one big save, committed several dangerous mistakes. Disasterclass.
Roma 3-0 Barcelona. Couldn't save a shot that was too tricky for him. Poorly rushed out of goal in one episode. Almost saved a penalty kick. Made one huge save. Not at fault at the third goal. Can't blame him.
Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona. Unlucky at the first goal (saved a shot but the rebound followed). Showed some really poor goalkeeping at the second goal. Not at fault at the third one. Fell asleep together with his teammates at the fourth. Disasterclass.
Barcelona 2-8 Bayern. Conceded too many unnecessary goals but also made five saves. The defence was simply horrific that night – he was not the worst player on the pitch even despite conceding eight. Simply a very bad day for him.
Barcelona 1-4 PSG. Made multiple big saves, was almost fautless with his passing (including long balls). Partly at fault at two of the four goals conceded. Is he to blame for that defeat? Not really.
Barcelona 2-3 Eintracht Frankfurt. Made 4 saves, failed to save a penalty. Could've done better at the third goal conceded. Bad day in the office.
While it often happens that Ter Stegen struggles to show his best in big matches, those scary numbers of goals conceded are usually the result of Barca's poor defensive play. We shouldn't only blame MATS for our past misfortunes – especially given how many years we played with the backline of Nelson Semedo, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Jordi Alba.
