FC Barcelona Social Club: who would be in charge of Blaugrana and what players would play if the club were run purely by fans

At least once in a lifetime, each of you dreamed about being part of FC Barcelona and participating in the club’s decision-making process: through asking them to sign this or that player, recommending a head coach or simply suggesting a certain tactical game plan.

To make the FC Barcelona Social Club possible, we’ve been collecting precious opinions and feedback from you, Tribuna.com users, over the past days, months and even years.

What would Blaugrana 2024/25 look like if it was run solely by fans? Let’s take a look.

Head coach

The fan board would love Hans-Dieter Flick to take over starting from next season. The German is highly valued by Cules for his legendary sextuple with Bayern Munich and the famous 8-2 against Barcelona that forced Blaugrana to do everything from scratch and start building a completely new project that would be more sustainable than the previous one. In some way, today’s Barca are the monster ‘created’ by Flick.

The 59-year-old comfortably wins Barca’s fan polls on various platforms.

There are more reasons behind the fans’ desire to appoint Hansi as manager: some believe his coaching staff would drastically improve Barca’s physical preparation and discipline, something Blaugrana lacked a lot in the past decade. But most importantly, it’s the hunger for trophies that makes Cules want the German at the helm.

Barca icons as board members

Cules aside, part of the board should be composed by people who know the club well from the inside – they are fans too after all.

Barca supporters would feel privileged to work alongside the following legends.

Gerard Pique. Many fans dream of ‘Piquenbauer’ to become the next Barca president. In the fan project, the 37-year-old could also be El Presidente, the man at the head of everything.

Andres Iniesta. The 39-year-old is likely to hang up his boots soon. In his latest interview, the midfield magician announced his desire to coach Blaugrana one day. Just like Pep Guardiola, he might start his managerial journey in La Masia.

Carles Puyol. The Lion Heart is currently busy performing ambassadorial duties while not forgetting about Barcelona. He has been present at important events in recent years and he also gives advice to Barca’s young players. At the fan-managed club, Puyol could be a great adviser.

Incoming transfers

Here are some star players Barca fans would love to land this summer.

Erling Haaland. What seemed to be a distant dream a few years ago might eventually come true. Barcelona are keeping track of the Norwegian’s situation, even arranging meetings with his entourage. If Barca conduct lots of sales in the summer, they could at least make an offer that could be seriously considered by both the player and Manchester City.

Joshua Kimmich. The 29-year-old is the dream signing to reinforce the defensive midfield position, especially if Hansi Flick takes over – some fans were even ‘ready to give up on Leo Messi’ to get the German instead. Kimmich is out of contract next year, so landing him is not that impossible.

Joao Cancelo. Barca fans are absolutely in love with the Man City loanee who can’t stop proving his worth this season. It feels like Joao has been part of the club for many years already – and signing him for less than €30m would be a real bargain.

Bonus signing… Leo Messi! The ultimate comeback that almost happened last summer but didn’t, probably because of Joan Laporta. Now that we visualise Laporta’s exit, the door is finally open for the Argentine to enjoy one last season with Blaugrana before possibly becoming the club’s sporting director.

Outgoing transfers

In Barca’s case, big signings are not possible without big sales. Let’s imagine that the fan board have found the best suitors for the following players.

Robert Lewandowski. Some fans wanted the Pole out when he was having a nightmare start to the season. Even though the 35-year-old has been decent in 2024, it would make little sense to keep him given Erling Haaland’s arrival and Vitor Roque staying.

Raphinha. The Brazilian may be a useful squad option, but most fans think he’s not worth the hype, especially amid Lamine Yamal’s progress. If a big offer comes, Barca’s fan board will surely consider it!

Ferran Torres. Although the Spaniard is having one of his best seasons in years, most fans didn’t mind the Shark leaving when exit rumours emerged – they would rather return Ansu Fati who could be used as an impact sub.

Less prominent names to leave include Sergino Dest, Eric Garcia, Clement Lenglet, Oriol Romeu and Marcos Alonso – out-of-favour players whose sales would help Blaugrana balance the books.

2024/25 squad

Four new signings plus key home-grown players like Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pau Cubarsi - the ‘untouchables’ of Barcelona - this is what the next season’s strongest eleven would look like.

Of course they would line up in the 4-3-3 formation – the one that made Barca the best club in the world under Pep Guardiola.

Barca’s bench options would include the likes of Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Frenkie de Jong, Ilkay Gundogan, Ansu Fati, Vitor Roque and some of the most standout La Masia talents.

New jersey

Back in 2022, many Barca fans fell in love with a concept kit designed for Leo Messi’s potential comeback.

Even though the Argentine never re-appeared at Camp Nou, this jersey design remains quite popular. No surprise – it looks similar to the one Barca won their 2009 treble in but also has these shiny gilded features on the sleeves and the collar.
