Atletico Madrid are eagerly waiting to sign Inigo Martinez for free at the end of the season, per Relevo.
Martinez' contract expires in the summer of 2025 but due to financial fair play problems regarding player wages, Barcelona were only able to register him on a one-year deal when he joined in the summer of 2023.
Recall that Barca only managed to register Martinez in their squad at the last minute and it was possible when Eric Garcia joined Girona.
If Barca are unable to register Martinez in the summer, the player will leave for free and Barca will pay him some financial compensation.
However, Barca can include him in a swap deal with Atleti that keeps Joao Felix at Barca next season. The Spaniard has been on the radar of Atleti even before he joined Barca.
Barca president Joan Laporta boldly stated recently that Felix will continue at Barca next season but there are difficult conversations still to be had with Atleti.
If Barca includes Martinez in a deal for Felix it will reduce the loan fee they have to pay for the Portuguese. Sources say Atletico will demand a €15m loan fee for Felix this summer. Such a high fee is to frustrate Barca's effort to keep the winger but with Martinez, the situation might be easier.
