Barcelona are no longer actively looking for a replacement for Xavi. According to Sport's Albert Masnou, Barca's number one option if Xavi leaves is Rafa Marquez – the current Barca Athletic coach.
Barca have decided to look at home for Xavi's replacement as opposed to searching for a seasoned gaffer in Europe for many reasons.
Hansi Flick's option has gone cold for his lack of experience outside Germany while Roberto De Zerbi has proved a complicated operation as he's not a free agent. Meanwhile, Julian Nagelsmann is set to return to Bayern.
Barca are still hoping that Xavi doesn't leave, but the Spaniard continues to insist he will not stay back.
Sources claim that Xavi will not leave if various conditions are met. The coach could be tempted to stay if Barca wins the Champions League and if the club promises an investment of €300m in the squad. Both options are difficult to attain.
It all opens the door for former Barca defender Marquez to step in and become Barca's coach. The Mexican already stated he would gladly take the job.
