Barcelona are interested in the potential signing of Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena in the summer window, claims Diario Sport.
That could be tricky to execute as the Spaniard has a €55m-€60m release clause in his deal. Barca’s financial situation means they can’t afford to spend so much on him.
But there is another way a possible deal can be achieved. Villarreal are quite interested in strengthening their squad with promising young talent.
They have been closely monitoring a number of players from La Masia who have recently broken into the Barac first-team squad.
As a result, the Blaugrana could potentially tempt Villarreal to sell Baena by offering them a young player and a lower fee.
This could potentially benefit both the clubs. Barca can sign a quality creative midfielder like Baena, while Villarreal can improve their future core.
The 22-year-old midfielder has been one of the best playmakers in La Liga this season, having scored two goals and provided 13 assists in 32 league games.
