Barcelona are poised to relieve Xavi of his duties as manager at the end of the 2023/24 season. However, the club is in a bit of a delicate situation over this.
That is because legally, Barca must pay Xavi a compensation fee upon his sacking. This would be his entire salary for the rest of his contract, which is until 2025.
According to Mundo Deportivo journalist Fernando Polo, the Spaniard is actually ready to forgo his entire salary for the next year.
He does not want any of the compensation fee, which can help Barca save a lot of money. But, Xavi would want his support staff to be compensated with their remaining salary.
The Spaniard realizes the trouble his assistant coaches could be put in if they’re not paid their deserved wages. Hence, he’d like them to get their payments before agreeing to leave.
Xavi is yet to be officially informed that he will be sacked. He is reportedly tracking the developing situation over his future by reading what the news outlets have to report.
