Ter Stegen loses La Liga Best Goalkeeper Award as clear winner emerge

Ter Stegen has been beaten to La Liga Best Goalkeeper Award (Zamora) by Athletic Bilbao's Unai Simon.

Simon now has an unassailable lead after recording a clean sheet in Bilbao's final game of the season against Rayo Vallecano. Although Bilbao substituted their goalie after 60 minutes to ensure he didn't lose his clean sheet record.

Besides clean sheets, Simon boasts the best goal conceded per game average in La Liga with 0.91. The Spaniard recorded 18 clean sheets in 36 games this season.

If Ter Stegen doesn't concede in Barca's final game of the season against Sevilla, it would be his 16th clean sheet of the season.

However, Ter Stegen's goal conceded per game average would stand at 0.92, which is less than Simon's tally (0.91).

Fine margins define who wins what in Europe and Ter Stegen loses out this time. Last season the German won the award by some distance, this term, the Spanish goalie makes Bilbao history.
