Barcelona sacked Xavi last week bringing an end to a two-and-a-half stint at the club.
Xavi's sacking came as a surprise considering he had only been convinced to stay back after saying he was leaving back in January.
According to ESPN's Samuel Marsden, Xavi's sacking came as a result of his decision to discard four senior players — Robert Lewandowski, Joao Cancelo, Joao Felix and Vitor Roque.
The club management didn't agree with his stance on the players as they view them as key to a successful campaign next season.
Xavi then went on air to belittle Barca's chances of competing against Real Madrid next season. That ultimately sealed his fate.
Xavi will now be replaced by Hansi Flick — a German who has agreed with the club's stance on players going forward.
