Barcelona's new manager Hansi Flick is turning to Barca Atletic and La Masia to beef up his squad ahead of preseason.
According to Diario AS, Flick has already handpicked 10 youngsters who can be considered his children in the squad going forward.
They are, Ander Astralaga, goalkeeper (20), Diego Cooking, goalkeeper (18), Unai Hernandez, midfielder (18), Gerard Martin, left-back (22), Angel Alarcon, winger (20), Marc Bernal, defensive midfielder (17), Noah Darvich, attacking midfielder, (17), Mika Faye, centre-back (20), Hector Fort, right-back (17) and Marc Casado, midfielder (20).
One can argue that someone like Lamine Yamal should be on this list but Lamine is no longer a 'kid', he's a game-changer now, regardless of his age.
And you won't blame Flick for leaning heavily on youngsters. Barely a month to the resumption of a new season, the German tactician remains uncertain of what his senior squad will look like.
Barca are yet to make any new signings while some departures are still to be finalized, like Sergi Roberto, Clement Lenglet, Eric Garcia, Inigo Martinez and some others.
Meanwhile, injuries continue to ravage the squad. Defender Ronald Araujo is set to undergo surgery this week. Others like Pedri, Gavi and probably Frenkie De Jong will not start the season with the group due to injury.
With his aforementioned kids, Flick will have a full squad that can compete in preseason. However, their competence when the season starts remains under question.
