Carlo Ancelotti was spotted speaking to senior Real Madrid players before making substitutions against Manchester City on Wednesday.
The Italian manager consulted Bernabeu veterans Toni Kroos and Marcelo before introducing Jesus Vallejo in extra time.
Madrid held on and the game finished 3–1, securing them a place in the Champions League final against Liverpool on May 28 in Paris.
After the game, Kroos said: "Ancelotti asked for the opinion of the experienced players on who he should sub on at extra-time.This situation describes him perfectly as a coach and is why he works so well with the team."
