Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has recently been declared bankrupt due to a string of poor property investments, with HMRC filing a bankruptcy petition against him which was approved by the High Court on April 12.

According to the Daily Mail, Brown had lost millions in property investments, owed HMRC six figures, and had fallen behind on car payments he couldn't fulfil.

Brown, who once earned £50,000 a week at the height of his career, separated from his ex-partner, Real Housewives of Cheshire star Leanne, in 2021, and the couple have been struggling to sell their expensive properties to recoup some cash

A source close to Brown was qouted by mail saying: "It may seem like Wes was earning big money - to most people, he was - but the trouble was he was also trying to keep up with the lifestyle of team-mates earning five or six times more than he was."

"Most of his money disappeared in bad property deals. He overpaid on the farm where Leanne lives in. He spent something like £6million or £7m to buy that. They have tried to sell it but haven’t managed to, even after lowering the price to £4.75m. Any money left is tied up in the farm."

Currently, it's been reported that Brown is renting a small property from current Manchester United player Marcus Rashford. Additionally, it's believed that other former United players, such as Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick, are offering assistance to Brown during his difficult financial situation.
