Brentford have revealed the new kit for the next season and the season after: 2023-24 and 2024-25.
The initiative underlines Brentford's 'commitment to affordability, inclusion and a shared responsibility [...] towards a more environmentally conscious future'.
This, however, isn't the only notable thing about the kit. Fans also noticed that Brentford chose to stick with the main sponsor HollywoodBets, a South African betting company. The decision comes as a blow for those fans just as Ivan Toney, one of the team's best players, is serving an 8-month ban for betting breaches.
Here's how they reacted on Twitter.
The Big Step: Brentford will continue to promote gambling on their shirts next season which means when Ivan Toney returns he'll be a billboard for the addiction he is recovering from. Careless."
Peter Howe: "It’s just a shame you’re not proving more socially conscious by sticking with a betting sponsor despite the issues recently experience by one of your own players."
Tom Levins: "One of your players is literally serving a six month ban for gambling on the sly."
Kenzo O'Brien: "Toney must be getting a few free bets with this deal??? Madness from what seems to a very well run club."
It must be noted that these are the last years of gambling sponsorship on the front of shirts for Premier League clubs. From the 2026-27 season onwards, gambling companies will no longer be allowed as shirt-front sponsors, although gambling-related adverts will be permitted anywhere else on kits, merchandise, and in physical and virtual spaces.
