Digs at Real Madrid, Scotland & 2 more — Rodri is a sore loser

Rodri hates losing so much he hasn't tasted defeat since March 2023, if you exclude penalty shoot-outs. Yet a failed shoot-out is exactly what cost Man City a place in the Champions League semifinals.

Man City's midfielder didn't take the defeat lightly, claiming he only saw one team in the entire 120 plus minutes at the Etihad. This isn't the first time Rodri has openly challenged the fairness of a result.

Here we recall other similar incidents.

'Lucky Leicester tactics'

Man City had a rough start to the 2020/21 campaign, and the stand-out result from the clash was their 5-2 home defeat to Leicester City. Leicester's crime? Only having 28.3% possession of the ball.

"Football has not been fair with us," Rodri told Sky Sports right after. "We deserved many things. We played, we tried. Only with a few things they come here, do two or three things and beat us. I don't know if it's our fault or their strength.

"For me, they're lucky. With two or three things they win this game. It's OK and we have to congratulate them, but it's not the way I like to play."

'Morocco offers nothing'

At the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Morocco proved a surprise package. In the Round of 16, the African nation knocked Spain out on penalties after the normal time ended in a 0-0 draw. Again, the Spanish midfielder was not happy with the other team choosing to shut up shop and counterattack.

"Morocco offered absolutely nothing, without disrespecting them," said Rodri, seemingly disrespecting the opponent.

He added: "In the game, they did nothing. They just waited for the counters. They stayed behind and tried to counter us."

'Rubbish Scotland'

When Scotland stunned Spain with a 2-0 victory in the Euro-2024 qualifying campaign, leaving Rodri aggrieved.

The Spaniard said after the game: "It's the way they play. You have to respect it but for me, it's a bit rubbish. Because it's always wasting time. They provoke you. They always fall. For me, this is not football."

For some reason, Rodri retracted his statements before the other game against Scotland, citing his level of English as the reason for the misunderstanding.

Below you can rate Rodri's English skills:
