Liverpool lay blame on FA after fielding ineligible player in Carabao Cup

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are blaming FA for the situation with fielding an ineligible player in the Carabao Cup clash with MK Dons.

The Reds fielded Pedro Chirivella in the 63rd minute of what turned out to be their 2-0 win. Normally teams are facing expulsion from the competition but the Reds insist it was not their fault.

Chirivella returned to Anfield in the summer following the end of his loan spell with the Spanish tier-two outfit Extremadura and did not get international clearance. However, Liverpool FC claim they applied for an international transfer certificate for Pedro on his return in July.

The Merseysiders are blaming the FA for the administrative oversight and are hoping to be given a lesser punishment. Meanwhile, the FA insist it's the club's responsibility to make sure the player is eligible to feature.

The whole range of punishments Liverpool could face includes a written warning and a fine.

If the Reds remain in the competition, they will face Arsenal at Anfield in the fourth round, in the week beginning on October 28.
