Alexander-Arnold explains crossing technique after West Ham assists

On Monday, Liverpool beat West Ham 3-2 at Anfield on the Premier League Matchday 27. Trent Alexander-Arnold contributed to the win with two assists. The right-back has given a little bit of insight into the mechanism behind his brilliant crossing ability.

"A bit of both," the 21-year-old told Sky Sports when asked whether he deliberately looks for a teammate or just sends the ball into a dangerous area.

"I think sometimes when you get the ball and you’re thinking about crossing it then you have to look in and see if anyone’s in the box and see where the runs are going to be made, and then it’s about hitting areas really, saying to the attackers: ‘Go and attack it.’

"That’s what I tried to do, I tried to put balls into the box and when you’re getting space out wide and you’ve got a little bit of time it’s always good to get the ball out of your feet and try to cross it, but I’m doing whatever I can to help the team and that’s how we all think."

Trent has been sensational. By collecting two assists against the Hammers, the right-back has matched the all-time Premier League record for assists by a defender in a single season - 12.

The record itself also belongs to the 21-year-old and it was set last term. With 11 games left to go, Alexander-Arnold has every chance to set a new one.

All in all, the Englishman has made 37 appearances across all competitions this campaign so far, scored two goals and provided 14 assists.
