Liverpool urged to buy Sevilla defender Carlos who has £64.2m release clause

In late December, there were quite a few reports linking Liverpool to Sevilla defender Diego Carlos. Things have gone quiet since that but Fabiano Soares Pessoa, who coached the centre-half at Estoril, believes that the Reds should go for the 26-year-old.

"There are some Real Madrid defenders who are worse than him," he told ESPN Brasil as relayed by Sport Witness. "At Barcelona, there’s a lot more space because they’re a team who need fast players. And he’s very fast.

"That is why Klopp should be keeping an eye on him.

"He is a dynamic, intense, fast player. Football nowadays, for the slow player the market isn’t so good. Players who are fast and strong and competitive and who have quality, the coaches will always look at them."

Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be monitoring the Brazilian who joined Sevilla in 2019. The Andalusian club paid €15m for his services. Carlos' contract with the La Liga outfit includes a €75m (£64.2m) buy-out clause.

Here's the list of the largest sums ever paid for defenders:

In December, it was reported that the Reds were prepared to pay the asking price to land the defender (El Desmarque).

Sevilla have so far conceded only 25 goals in La Liga this season in the same number of games. Carlos has scored two goals this season.
