Cardiff boss Warnock confirms Clyne interest

Warnock told the Sky Sports: "We spoke about Clyne months ago, but then he got back into the Liverpool team against Manchester United, then they had a few injuries, so things change. But honestly, we've got nothing set for any position at the moment, I'm hoping that changes this week.

"We've got nine or 10 concrete enquiries in at the moment, obviously we're not going to sign them all. But you've got to do that, we're looking to strengthen this team. Results like this will help me, we're not adrift at the bottom of the table.

"People might think, 'I don't want to go to a team at the bottom of the table' but it's difficult to bring players in. I won't do it if they're not better than the ones we've got, even though I know we need a bigger squad."

According to the Mirror, Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne is very close to a loan move from Anfield, with several English top flights willing to sign him. Cardiff are the side believed to win the race for Clyne, with Fulham and Leicester also having shown an interest in his service. Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock hopes his past experience of working with Nat at Crystal Palace will help him. Should Clyne reunite Warnock, he is expected to be given an immediate start at Cardiff.

The 27-year-old has made two starts for the Reds this season - in the 2-1 Carabao Cup loss to Chelsea and the 3-1 league win over Man United. He also featured as a late sub against Wolverhampton and Newcastle. Clyne was impressive against Jose Mourinho's side but he will definitely fall down the pecking order after Trent Alexander-Arnold has returned and Joe Gomez is on the way to full recovery.

Clyne joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2015 for a fee of £12.5million on a five-year contract. He suffered a back injury in the summer of 2017 Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez didn't hesitate to seize the chance.
