James Pearce on Robertson back-up: If Klopp decides Larouci and Lewis are not ready, Liverpool will need to buy a new left-back

Reputable journalist James Pearce has discussed the prospects of Yasser Larouci and Adam Lewis to feature in the Reds' senior team next season.

"Lewis was ahead of him [Larouci] but Larouci has made big strides forward this season and Lewis has had injury problems," Pearce said during the Q&A session on The Athletic.

"Prior to the replay against Shrewsbury, I would have said that Larouci was definitely the preferred option. But he wasn't fit for that game and Lewis really grasped his chance.

"Lewis had waited a long time for that debut and you could see what it meant to him. It's a good battle between them.

"In terms of back-up to Robertson, Klopp has a decision to make over whether either of them are ready for that role. If not he will need to bring in some cover."

Andy Robertson has missed only one Premier League game this season (vs Bournemouth), making 41 appearances across all competitions so far. Sometimes, James Milner was asked to deputise as a left-back.

Earlier, Pearce stated that Neco Williams and Curtis Jones are the most talented prospects at the Academy.
