'He looked like a first team player': Curtis Jones heaps praise on Rhys Williams' performance

"I've played all the way through the Academy with him," Curtis Jones said of Rhys Williams to Liverpoolfc.com after the 7-2 win against Lincoln City. "Then he's had a loan spell and he's done well.

"He's come in and today he 100 per cent looked like a first-team player. He's been around the squad for years.

"I'm really pleased for Rhys and I hope he gets more time playing because he deserves it.

"But again, as young boys, we've got to respect the manager and his staff [the decision to play us or not]. We're 100 per cent ready and I'm definitely ready to go again when called upon."

Considered one of the academy’s most promising talents, Williams showed his confidence in possession as displayed by his diagonal pass into the final third to help set up for Jones' first goal of the game.

Williams had 2 tackles, 3 interceptions and 1 clearance in a decent outing for the Reds as it was his first senior appearance. The 19-year-old looked solid in the first half and although he dropped off in the second, there were more positives than negatives for the player.
