“It’s a huge problem for Liverpool,” Carragher told CBS. “Matip was touch and go for this game. Whether he will be back for West Ham, I am not sure. The young lad Rhys Williams came back and actually did well [against Midtjylland].
“What he does give you is a great size and great aerial ability that Fabinho or Joe Gomez don’t give you.
“I think everyone will have their fingers crossed that Matip is back for the game at the weekend for West Ham. Then maybe the Atalanta game because Liverpool have made a great start then it’s not as important. Then you got the Manchester City game next and that’s huge.”
Fabinho had to be subbed off against Midtjylland as he pulled his hamstring but Williams did a great job for an hour as he slid next to Gomez and helped the Reds keep a clean sheet.
While Williams does have bags of potential, Carra is right in saying that Liverpool will be hoping to have Matip back for next week as we have another CL game and a massive match against Man City - the centre-back's experience and composure will be very welcome.
