'He looks disinterested and demotivated - he needs to move on for his sake': Fan tries to make sense of Origi's struggles

"Can we talk about Divock Origi? I've been dying to talk about Divock Origi," a Liverpool fan nicknamed Post_Coconut_Clarity wrote on Reddit. "This man needs to move on, for his own sake. I've always had a lot of sympathy for him because we don't exactly play to his strengths and haven't under Klopp since the very early days.

"But this season he's just dropped off so much, his attitude seems to have changed. Several times over I caught him reacting three-seconds after the fact, he mostly just jogged about looking completely uninterested.

"It kind of makes me wonder. I think he's probably one of those players who's very athletic and capable as a professional footballer, but maybe not totally in love with the game. This probably made him more accepting of his bit-part role in recent seasons, but maybe now he's well and truly on the outside of the fringe minutes, he's just losing all interest and motivation.

"I also think we may have inadvertently bamboozled him over the summer with transfer plans, and maybe he even feels hard done-by considering what he's contributed over the years.

"Entirely speculation, but maybe Klopp asked him whether he'd stay one last season because of the pandemic making transfers hard to achieve. Maybe he agrees thinking he'd at least get the 'mop-up' minutes.

"Then nearer the end of the window we bring in Jota and decide to keep Shaq, basically rendering him useless while also giving him very little time to secure a move to a club he'd actually like to join.

"Just a theory. But I feel like there has to be more to this very notable drop-off from him. On the other hand, maybe he's one of those players who needs regular football to really perform and this is just the cost of him feeding on scraps for several years in a row."

The Belgian has made 6 appearances across all competitions so far this season. He's clocked 312 minutes managing a goal and an assist (against Lincoln).
