'It would have been so, so easy to let this season be a season of excuses': fan amazed by Liverpool's will to win against all odds

The Reds have thrashed Crystal Palace 7-0 at Selhurst Park but this victory is a cherry on the cake as this season has been extremely difficult for the team.

Injuries, odd refereeing decisions, pressure from the press and opposition managers: all these things seem to work together in a strange conspiracy to deny Liverpool their second title in a row—but Klopp's men persist no matter what.

And a Liverpool fan named Mari Lewis on Twitter passionately expressed her admiration for the team and Klopp.

"What Liverpool have done thus far without their first choice centrebacks — one of whom being a Ballon d’Or runner-up — is absolutely incredible," she wrote. "It speaks to the mentality of the squad, but also to the level of manager Jürgen Klopp is. Merry Christmas, Top of the Table Reds.

"It would have been so, so easy to let this season be a season of excuses, of feeling sorry for themselves. Instead it’s been a space for opportunity — for players like Curtis Jones, Rhys Williams, Diogo Jota, Caoimhín Kelleher to grab the chances given to them with both hands.

"In absolute seriousness, I don’t think another team in the world would be sat top at Christmas and through top in the Champions League after the barrage of setbacks — injuries, bad luck with VAR, etc. — the Reds have grappled with thus far. I’m in awe of this squad and this manager."
