‘Who cares?!': Jurgen Klopp explains why Sadio Mane's goal drought was not a problem

"Honestly, I would have lost everything if I had to bet on it, how many goals Sadio Mane scored in the last 10 Premier League games," Jurgen Klopp said at a press conference, as quoted by the official Liverpool website. "One would have been the last [option] I would have chosen, I had no idea that he only scored once.

"A second ago we spoke about the best goal difference that we have in the league and then I realise that one of our best players, one of the best players in the world, didn’t score for a while… I could just [say], ‘Who cares?!’ He played exceptionally well, he is in really good shape, he is unbelievably difficult to defend.

"If Sadio has the ball, as an opponent you need to put pretty much two or three players on that side and that opens up for us a lot of things. I was not concerned but scoring then is, for the boys, obviously really important. Bobby obviously liked it – two weeks ago we spoke about him and since then he scored three or four goals.

"So now if Sadio starts scoring now again I have absolutely no problem with it but it was not about his performances, the performances were really, really good."

By scoring against Crystal Palace, Mane ended his 9-game dry spell, his longest in a Liverpool shirt. With Diogo Jota sidelined, Sadio is likely to be close to irreplaceable in the coming weeks - so we have to hope that he won't lose his goalscoring boots again.
