'I don't have the right words for it': Klopp opens up on Matip's injury during Spurs win

"I don't have the right words for it. The things that happened with the boys are incredible and the latest one is a big blow," Jurgen Klopp told reporters.

"We lose a player and a person for a while. Surgery is needed and you are not in close contact. It's really harsh and unlucky.

"At half time we thought it was a little bit. We tried to strap the ankle and as we did it blew up. He will be back for pre-season, which is great. All the injuries can settle and it will make him even stronger for the future."

Klopp also opened up on why the centre-back crisis has limited the appearances Liverpool's backup fullbacks have had: "12/13 different CB pairings, that makes it difficult for Neco and Kostas, they are new, young. We search for stability but we have to be smart, quick and we try everything we can to help them. We will use the time we have to do our best."

On Monday evening, Liverpool confirmed that ankle ligament damage will see Joel Matip miss the rest of the season, joining Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk in an unprecedented series of injuries at the back.

Williams and Tsimikas are both young players still adapting to the rigours of playing for this Reds side, making it understandable that the boss has been fearful of throwing them into the deep end.
