'He'd have been an absolute god': LFC fan highlights Minamino's struggles, explains how he could have flourished

Takumi Minamino is back from his loan at Southampton and is aiming to impress enough to get an important role with the team.

However, so far, there doesn't seem to be much change to his standing in the squad and u/LeStiqsue on Reddit has explained what his problem is.

"I honestly think the issue is a combination of role requirements and positioning.

"If Taki Minamino played for Brendan Rogers' 4-3-1-2 as that lone roving guy behind the two strikers, he'd be an absolute god.

"That's because he'd only be doing those things that he's good at -- first time passes and one-twos on the edge of the box.

"He doesn't have the actual mass required to do Firmino things, which is drop deep, harass and press, and then also bully past a a CB once in a while.

"He's also not as good as Mané, bless him, so he's not playing off the left. He's not going to replace Thiago or Hendo in the midfield.

"I like him. He's a good player. He's just not playing in the system that created him, and it shows."

Minamino is getting game-time in pre-season and the club has hardly given up on the forward but the clock is ticking for the Japanese international and he needs to find a way to fit into the system soon.
