Guardiola on who can stop Man City in Champions League: 'Liverpool. They're a pain in the ass'

Pep Guardiola was asked to name one club that can stop his team in the competition. He replied: "Liverpool. They're just six points behind us [in the Premier League], they have been our real rivals in the past few seasons.

"They're always there, they're honestly a pain in the ass! So yeah, they're a fantastic team in Europe."

Well, the Reds are not six but rather nine points behind City. However, they do have a game in hand over the defending champions.

City managed to reach the final of the Champions League last season but were beaten by Chelsea. They were famously knocked out 5-1 on aggregate by Liverpool back in the 2017/18 season. 

Pep has always given Liverpool a lot of compliments, so this is nothing new. It's good to see that he recognises the strength of the team though.

Guardiola responds to Klopp conceding title race: 'I don't believe him

Jurgen Klopp claimed yesterday that while Liverpool will give their all every game, 

Pep Guardiola has responded to these comments (via ESPN): "I don't believe him.

"Absolutely [it's possible] and he thinks the same, otherwise he wouldn't be the competitor that he is. Of course he believes. In football, everything can happen. He knows that he has to win a lot of games like we know we have to win a lot of games to fight to be champion again.

"The run we've done over the last 14 games and we are just potentially six points ahead. It's because the opponent is so good too."

If Liverpool win their games in hand, they will be six points behind City. The two juggernauts will face each other at the Etihad too and that could be a potential title-decider given their form. 

An exciting title race awaits us, that's for sure.

'I don't think they smell our breath already': Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool's chances to catch Man City

"I am not sure we're in a position to get them on their toes, to be honest," Jurgen Klopp told a press conference about 

"Actually, we have no chance to catch them, but it doesn't mean we won't play the best possible season for us.

"First and foremost, we have to win our football games and this club is massive. Since I'm here, I can't remember a game we lost and everyone said 'yeah, we can lose that game', so it's always the same situation.

"There's a game, we put on the shirts and we have to win it. It doesn't work out all the time, but thankfully it's happened a couple of times.

"I don't think they smell our breath already, but we just try to win football games."

Man City also won their game this midweek, so the gap between the sides is still nine points, although Liverpool do have a game in hand.

It's true that the result of the race will not depend on Liverpool. They will only have a chance to catch up with Pe Guardiola's side if the latter have a slump that will affect their results. 

They have not had one since the start of the last season - and even that did not prevent them from lifting the
