Everton goalkeeper says he could have joined Liverpool: 'That was a close one'

Asmir Begovic plies his trade at Everton after joining the Toffees from Bournemouth last year. He could have joined Liverpool back in 2013, as he has revealed.

“The main one was Liverpool, it was between me and Mignolet at the time,” the goalkeeper told Talksport, as quoted by Sportbible.

“At Stoke I was still under contract for three or four years so they wanted too much money and Mignolet only had one year left and he was a good deal for them, that was a close one.”

Mignolet went on to spend six years at Liverpool, as a first-choice goalkeeper in his first three seasons and as a back-up to first Karius and then Alisson later on.
