'It had been s***e for years before him': Carragher defends Southgate amid criticism from fans for dropping Trent

Jamie Carragher has come to Gareth Southgate's defence after his decision to not use Trent Alexander-Arnold during this round of Nations League games.

Fans, pundits and journalists have all been tearing into Southgate due to the lacklustre football being played under him and his refusal to use a creative outlet such as Trent.

Carra reminded fans that things were a lot worse before Southgate:

Although Carragher is right about the lack of competency in terms of previous England managers, this crop of national team players is the best they've had since the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes Terry and the lot.
