Nunez told he's 'only a minor upgrade on Origi' and 'not the right man to lead Liverpool's line'

"Darwin Nunez is only a minor upgrade on Divock Origi and is not the right man to lead Liverpool’s line," former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino wrote in The Times.

"The Uruguay international does not appear technically good enough and he loses the ball too quickly.

"Which is hardly ideal when Liverpool are so poor at winning it back. The board should have backed Klopp more in the summer. Even if it would have cost them more than £100 million, they had to make a statement signing.

"Liverpool do not have the riches of City, for instance, but they did talk to Kylian Mbappé this year. Surely they would not have bothered if they could not afford him?"

Nunez has scored six goals in 14 appearances for Liverpool so far this season.

The Uruguayan may not be a Haaland-like goal machine at the moment but comparing him to Origi is a bit unfair. Div will always be a Liverpool legend for his goals against Barca, Spurs and Everton but he's never going to be a starter in a title-challenging side.
