'After Leeds I couldn't have felt worse': Klopp on his mood ahead of Spurs game

"It's a massive game for us," the boss said as quoted by ESPN.

"We know Tottenham are well organised, defending with a high level and counter attacking. We saw their offensive power in the last two games when they had to chase. Spurs are in a good moment.

"After Leeds I couldn't have felt worse, but then you beat a team in form and that gives you a lift. It is normal. We will try to make sure we will feel like we did after Napoli."

 has been experimenting with the 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2 for 

 over the past couple of months before finally reverting to his old 4-3-3 formation in the last game. He explained to reporters, his thinking behind doing the same:

“Our problem, why we changed systems and why we did all these kind of things. One is the availability of players, the other is we were not as solid defensively as we used to be,” he said.

“You can always point the finger at the things that don’t do well and say, ‘This was not good, this was not good. We have to improve this, we have to improve that.’ Or you give them a completely new textbook.

“That’s what we tried with changing the system. Now it’s not about how we did last game. It’s like a new chapter. ‘In this system, we do it like this, this, this, this.’ You don’t compare it with the last one.

“Positive start to make sure you help the boys, because that is actually my main job. To help the boys do what they do in the most confident way and manner. That’s why we did that. Because our problem in these moments was defending actually, as a team, as a unit.

“That’s why I said in the last game we defended Napoli extremely well. A football-playing side. We closed exactly the right gaps, everybody was involved, chasing from the back, our counter-press was really good, we had a high last line which meant we were higher up in midfield so we really could be around these football situations.

“That’s why it’s not the system gave us opportunities to defend better, we defended in a system better, that one we didn’t defend that well in five or six weeks ago since we played it last time. That’s it.

“We have to defend on an incredibly high level. It’s a big challenge, even if we defend really well, we have to attack as well. It’s not that you can close one door or sort one problem.

“It’s pretty likely you open another problem in that moment, another gap. That’s why we are trying and trying and trying.”

The Premier League will be paused in November and December because of the World Cup.

The season will resume on December 26 and 

 will play three games in just eight days.

"Normally our pre-season is always the basis for the rest of the season, this time we have the first part of the season that’s interrupted," he told the club's official website.

"If you would have asked me three years ago if I can expect something like that… OK, with the World Cup it was clear, but we are already kind of used to it because with the pandemic we had breaks and starting again. 

"So it’s not completely new to us anymore and when these players have time off, for example, if they are not at the World Cup, they never have real time off, they have a training schedule to fulfil so they don’t lose a lot in these periods, which is very important for us. 

"That’s why we can give them at least as long as possible time off with family and holiday and stuff like this, but they just need it. 

"Apart from that, the World Cup is for all top teams in football pretty much the same, especially in England it’s the same because we play immediately. If you are in the final or the third-place [game] then you play again a week later... and then you play 26th, 31st, 2nd and stuff like this. 

"Obviously the guys in the Premier League like the spectacular. I’ve said it often enough, nobody really cares about the players in these moments but that’s how it is."
