Cafu on Trent: 'They say you don't defend and bench you. They used to do same thing to me and Roberto Carlos'

"I don’t understand why," Brazil legend Cafu said of Trent Alexander-Arnold not getting starts with England, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

"He’s the full package: he has quality, dribbling skills, and pace. But it’s always the same thing.

"They say you don’t defend and bench you. They used to do the same thing to me and Roberto Carlos, but I’d argue we managed to win something anyway.

"The style of the fullbacks has become robotic, there are fewer cuts without the ball."

Trent was benched in England's two opening games at the World Cup. Kieran Trippier started over the Liverpool right-back.
