Reporter slams 'foolish' Liverpool transfer decision amid injury crisis

Speaking on the Blood Red podcast, Liverpool Echo reporter Paul Gorst claimed that Liverpool are probably regretting letting go of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino without really replacing them.

"I think it was a bit of a mistake letting both Minamino and Origi go without at least recruiting someone who can play that kind of role," Gorst said.

"That was a role for cup games or when you’re rolling the dice and you need something off the bench, I think it was foolish to just leave it the way it was, and this only adds to that."

The journalist has probably been a bit harsh: while Darwin Nunez was obviously a replacement for Sadio Mane, Fabio Carvalho was signed to be a rotation player, at least at the start of his career at Anfield.

Due to injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, however, Carvalho ended up playing a much bigger role already. Liverpool would've probably benefitted from one more healthy attacker in the squad.
