Alisson Becker was unexpectedly left out of the Brazil squad this month, with interim manager Ramon Menezes opting to call up Ederson as the first-choice keeper instead.
Speaking at a press conference, however, the Man City star expressed his bemusement at the decision to leave Alisson at home.
"The first moment I saw the list I was surprised, but it is the coach’s decision," he told reporters, as quoted by This Is Anfield.
"They are choices. I thought he would be on the list, but he wasn’t, I don’t know why, [maybe] it’s a matter of opportunities for younger players.
"But we have to work, do our best, every day there is a good new player who can take on that responsibility too."
On one hand, Alisson's absence could be explained by the fact that Brazil only play one friendly game during this international break as they take on Morocco this weekend.
However, the fact that Ederson made the cut and Alisson didn't make us wonder what is the reason behind Menezes' decision. Still, he is an interim manager after all, so it might not mean anything in the long term.
